Motorcyclist injured in Gzira
A motorcyclist was seriously injured this morning when he crashed into a parked car and a showroom in Rue D'Argens, Gzira.
The incident happened at about 11.45 a.m.
The motorcyclist is believed to have swerved to avoid a car coming out of the junction with Sliema Road - at the traffic lights - and crashed into the parked car and the showroom.
He is receiving hospital treatment.

Traffic lights without cameras are indeed dangerous. One can notice dangerous abuses very often at traffic lights. It is usless to legislate without supervision! Danger lurks on our roads everywhere as most law breakers remain unchecked. This is not right al all. Pedistrians. cyclists, motorcyclists and drivers have a right for the safe use of public roads. It is the Authorities duty to see that the Law is being followed.

Get well soon.
Just out of interest did the car driver stop?

Something has to be done in that junction.. sometimes when the lights turn green cars from the other ways still cross!

I happened to drive past, after the rider had been taken away to hospital, but the bike was literally I'd say two-thirds inside the furniture shop on the corner there, with the back wheel sticking out onto the pavement. I'm pretty sure that's toughened 'safety glass' so the impact suffered by the rider must have been substantial.
That particular traffic light set-up is nothing short of appalling. The timing is most definitely flawed, as almost without fail when leaving the Sliema Road side, you are met with traffic still driving along Rue D'Argens having gone through the green-changing-to-amber light on their side. This happens with such frequency that it cannot possibly just be down to drivers abusing the laws by trying to rush through on amber, let alone red!
And what about the way that these same lights are routinely switched OFF, or at best, left blinking on amber during the night? It is a disaster waiting to happen.
The situation requires an urgent solution in order to avoid accidents like the one reported here.

Wishing all the best and may you recover quickly. This is a clear case in point that some car drivers think that a motorcycle does not have the right to use the road like anybody else. Hope you are soon on your bike again my fellow biker. TBC member

When are the authorities going to install cameras at EVERY traffic light, that start recording when the light turns Red. For every person AT ANT TIME OF day, runs a Red light, give him/her a VERY hefty fine. Once I saw a school van full of school children run a Red light in this same junction at around 13:00 - 13:30. What would have happened if there was an accident. I see countless acts of the practice by drivers at all times of day. What are they waiting for. A tragedy. Prevention is BETTER than cure. And stop procrastinating to get votes. Lives come way before votes, and if I get a hefty fine, then tough luck, I should be more careful. Its our fault if we break the law, and we should all stop trying to make excuses. A car is a weapon and not an expensive toy.
