The Attard Council has filed a judicial protest against the owners of a quarry in Wied Incita.
The council filed its protest against Rainbow Mix Concrete Sand and Gravel Ltd for the building of a factory for the manufacture of bricks, dust pollution, the illegal building of a bridge to join the quarry in Attard to one in Zebbug and for allowing rubble and debris mounds to grow over the established heights.
The council said it moved its protest because four years of discussions with the owners through it action committee Bord Azzjoni Wied Incita had not borne results.
The companies' actions, the council said, were detrimental to the valley and causing major environmental damage.
It noted that this judicial protest followed another two it had presented in June 2009 against Mepa – for allowing the company to not address the problem, and against the Commissioner of Lands as the company was going over and above its rock cutting concession.
The council noted that an enforcement order had issued by Mepa but work continued as normal.
