One historic event, two books and many heartfelt emotions

The shipwreck of St Paul in 60AD is a significant event in the history of the Maltese islands and its commemoration is very much a national occasion.

The feast will be celebrated in Valletta tomorrow. The preparations for the feast, the emotions on the feast day proper and the many fine art treasures at the collegiate parish church of St Paul Shipwrecked are recorded and depicted in two books that have just been released.

The two hardback volumes – The Collegiate Church Of The Shipwreck Of St Paul and The Feast Of The Shipwreck Of St Paul – contain 176 pages each, with more than 500 colour photographs by Daniel Cilia. The text is by Robert Cassar and Ray Bondin (for the church and the feast, respectively).

Published by Miranda Publishers, the books come packed in a handmade slipcase.

“We have done stunning books about the Mdina Cathedral and St John’s Co-Cathedral. We have now decided to do a book about St Paul’s feast and the church’s treasures because St Paul is after all ingrained in our identity,” said Miranda’s Eddie Aquilina.
