The Malta Basketball Association (MBA) president Paul Sultana has just returned from Spain where he attended the launch of the FIBA World Cup 2014 which will be played in Madrid.

During his stay in the Spanish capital, Sultana exchanged views with Nar Zanolin, the FIBA Europe General Secretary.

In a cordial meeting, Zanolin congratulated the newly-elected MBA chief and augured him all the success in his new task.

Zanolin also had words of praise for the initiatives undertaken and work done by the MBA council in the first six months of its term.

Zanolin offered his assistance to the MBA and also queried about the projects they intend to embark on in future.

This year, FIBA Europe competitions will include Senior Division ‘C’ Championships, among others. Zanolin urged the Maltese association to strive and achieve the results they were seeking.

During the last championship tournaments, the Maltese women’s team finished top of the group and the men’s team won a bronze medal in a competition hosted by the MBA.

In a statement, the MBA said Sultana told Zanolin that the MBA will continue with its efforts to increase the popularity of the game in Malta at all levels, particularly in the junior level.

The MBA added that relations between FIBA Europe and the Maltese organisation are very strong and hoped to continue that way.
