End the killing, Malta tells Assad

The government yesterday condemned the Syrian bloodshed and expressed support towards the Arab League’s effort to end the violence.

“We owe it to the Syrian people not to close our eyes to the continuing repression. We support the efforts of the League of Arab States which is doing its utmost to end this unacceptable state of affairs,” Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said.

“The violence must stop immediately. President Bashar al Assad should immediately end the killing of civilians and withdraw the Syrian army from besieged towns and cities. This will make room for a peaceful transition for the sake of his country.”

Malta will continue supporting Syrians and the Arab League to find an end to the violence and allow a Syrian-led political transition, he added.
