A 59-year-old man grabbed a can full of petrol, doused the roof of a house and threatened to burn the whole place down following an argument over the discovery of a spoon used to cook drugs, a court was told today.
The man, Vincent Cassar from Żabbar got into the argument with his partner's son, Redent Thorton, on Sunday when he found a spoon which was used to cook drugs. In a rage, he went up to the roof where he threatened to set the house on fire, Police Inspector Robert Said Sarreo said.
Mr Cassar is pleading not guilty to trying to set fire to the residence and trying to cause damage to the house. He also denied threatening Mr Thorton and his mother Maria.
Magistrate Miriam Hayman remanded him in custody despite the police inspector stating that he did not object to bail being granted.
Lawyer Joe Brincat appeared for Mr Cassar.
