A man who injured a policeman during a drugs raid on Sunday afternoon was yesterday jailed for two years and fined €500 after admitting to trafficking in heroin and relapsing.

Police Constable Joseph Campbell tried to stop Melvin Pace, 25, from swallowing two sachets of heroin when the accused drove off. Mr Pace, from Valletta, also admitted to injuring the officer, driving dangerously and disobeying orders.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera also ordered his driving licence to be suspended for six months.
