A Romanian woman who arrived in Malta allegedly carrying one kilogram of heroin hidden in the false bottom of her suitcase told the police that her boyfriend had betrayed her, jurors heard yesterday.

Adela Mariana Creta, 24, arrived carrying the bag on a flight from Brussels in August 2009.

She claimed she had no knowledge of the drugs found in her possession, worth €41,000, Police Inspector Jesmond Borg testified.

She said her boyfriend had given her the bag and that while she was in a relationship with him, he was also seeing another woman.

Ms Creta is pleading not guilty to importing the drug and possession in circumstances which denote it was not for her exclusive use.

Inspector Borg said that while under arrest she shouted that she did not trust men and told the police she was with her boyfriend only for the money.

The case continues.
