Wanted: a few brain cells

My husband needed blood pressure tablets to be added to his yellow card, so we went to St Luke’s Hospital with all the required paper work. When we got there, the room was so full of people waiting to be served that we had to wait outside. After waiting nearly three hours we were seen to by the one and only person who was dealing with the yellow cards. She told us that the new card would be in the post within the next week or so.

When we received the new card we noticed that what we went for, i.e. to get the new tablets added to the card, had not been added at all. I tried phoning the number that was printed on the yellow card but all I got from 9 a.m. till noon (the opening times were just three days a week) was an engaged signal. So I assumed they had the phone off the hook, as many government places always do.

We went there again a few days later but could not get in for the amount of people waiting to be served (83 people before us). I asked the woman at the door if I could have an address so I could send the card by post, instead of having to wait for about four hours. Her reply was a sharp no.

I wonder if the present minister of health knows anything about what his people have to go through to get some service in this country. Up till now we still have not been able to get this very important medication put on to the yellow card, so we have to carry on buying it until we can get this sorted out.

I know for a fact that this happens very often, so why are these people, who are supposed to be there to help us, so incompetent at doing such a simple task like adding a new prescription onto a card? Surely it does not take a genius to do such a job.

Of course you got excellent service from the VAT and the inland revenue departments! They are both tax collection departments and if there's one thing all governments are good at it's collecting taxes! I sent a cheque to the IR department and it was cashed the day after! is that efficient or what?!
