Mater Dei
On Saturday night I fell down a hole in a pavement in Buġibba. I am 70, going on 21, and because I had my hands in my pockets, it being cold, I fell flat on my face. I looked as if I had done 20 rounds with Mike Tyson!
An ambulance came very quickly and I was taken to Mater Dei Hospital where I was seen to very promptly. The nurses were very professional and friendly and I was sent for a scan which was also undertaken promptly. I cannot praise highly enough the care and attention I was given by nurses, doctors and orderlies. I felt so safe.

Not everything is all bad at Mater Dei. The doctors and staff are the best.

What is bad at Mater Dei, Joseph Calleja, may I ask? Have you ever been to a state hospital in Italy or the UK? Hope you don't have in mind the busy E&A, where more than a third of the people who actually go there do NOT need to be there in the first place, but go there because services are 'free': where only a quarter of the people who go there need hospitalisation. Why don't you be more honest with your comments and leave politics aside?

One might ridicule the USA system of sueing for any type of, and for any minor degree, damages suffered through negligence of third parties. If that were to be the trend in Malta, surely, local authorities would do their best to keep all public amenities shipshape. This is only a dream, of course.

What a shame that the local council cannot pay the same attention to the pavements and roads. Then maybe you would have been spared such necessity. Hope you heal soon. xx
