Authority’s distorted logic
In 2009 the Malta Environment and Planning Authority’s planning directorate rightly refused the building of maisonettes on agricultural land in Għargħur. Just under 30 months later, Mepa has now granted an outline development permit for the same block of buildings.
The Mepa planning diretctorate is now stating that “agricultural areas located within the development boundary do not merit protection”. This is utter madness. So what merits protection? An unsightly scrapyard?

There is no logic. Sqaq Kromb il-Bahar in Gharghur will be ruined forever. We are now in the appeal stage but from what we've seen they will go on. Thanks for you support.

Logic there is. The difficulty is putting an adjective to it. The best I can manage to date is the logic of 'superior orders'. Take an example: by what logic did MEPA accept a completely erroneous report on the effects on utility prices (electricity and water) of using gasoil rather than heavy fuel oil for the first eight months of Delimara Extension running? And MEPA in this case means the full MEPA board bar one -Roderick Galdes MP. No doubt they would all have their own brand of logic; only none of them stood up and presented it to us.

Now if we had a law regulating financial contributions to political parties, we just might find the reason for MEPA's change of mind. What a monstrous, incredible turnaround!

I would argue that no logic is distorted -but that no logic actually exits.
