‘Pool held by Spurs at Anfield

Luis Suarez's long-awaited return from suspension could not inspire Liverpool to victory as they were held to a goalless Premier League draw by Tottenham at Anfield last night.

The Uruguay international, having served an eight-match suspension for racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra, had not played since Boxing Day but made up for lost time with an energetic cameo on as a second-half substitute.

Liverpool dominated possession and chances but Tottenham, who were without manager Harry Redknapp, had the opportunity to win it late on through Gareth Bale.

The Wales international was put clean through but Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina did enough block his initial save and the danger was cleared.

Suarez also had a chance to win it in stoppage time but the Uruguay striker headed straight at Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel from Gerrard’s free-kick while fellow substitute Stewart Downing fired over from range.

The result did little to change either side’s placing in the standings as Tottenham remained third on 50 points while Liverpool moved one point behind sixth-placed Arsenal.

Mr Ciantar. I am a Liverpool supporter. I agree that Spurs are a great side and I enjoy watching them play. However I hate it when anyone tries to justify a result whatever it is on the fact that one player or so was missing.A Good team must have back up players and a good bench. Liverpool too have their own injuries. A player who is definitly being missed is Lucas. Also Suarez only came into the game as a 66th minute substitute. But I would never use this as an excuse.
I totally disagree that Suarez`s kick to Parker was intentional or meaning full. If you look at the reply you will notice that it was purely accidental and he immediately appologised. it seems that everyone loves critising Suarez but I only think that it`s because he is a Great player. Anyway Good luck to the Spurs in their quest to win the Premiership. In the meantime I hope the Reds maintain their good play to push for a Champions leuge place.YNWA

@ Tony

Opinionists after the game reiterated that had Suarez not been coming from a long ban he would have walked! He was totally disinterested from where the ball was, he first shoved Scot in the back and swung an ugly kick at his mid rif. Graham Poll this morning on one of the tabloids also said that he should have been red carded. Did you see, by any chance, Bale's shin after the two legged lunge Skrtel perfromed?
I repeat, given the circumstances of being without Harry and three infulential players, no matter who is on the bench, (there were 3 kids on the bench) and with pool coming from 2 fantastic results, I'd say, yes, Spurs came out very satisfied.

Good luck for the w/end.
