Women are better when it comes to parking skills
After decades of male taunts over their driving skills, women can take heart from a new study revealing that they are actually the better sex when it comes to parking skills.
A review of CCTV footage from 700 British car parks and interviews with 2,000 drivers found that when a range of factors are considered, including the method used and the time taken, women come out on top.
“I was quite surprised by the results, because in my experience men have always been the best learners and usually performed better in lessons,” said driving instructor Neil Beeson, who designed the study for NCP car parks.
“However, it’s possible that women have retained the information better. The results also appear to dispel the myth that men have better spatial awareness than women.”
The research looked at seven areas, including how fast drivers found a parking space, how they drove into it, how long it took to park, how much they repositioned the car, and the final result.
Out of a maximum score of 20, women had an average result of 13.4, while the average male score was just 12.3.
Men fared better than women in some areas, including speed – they took an average of 16 seconds to park, compared to 21 seconds for women – and they were happier with the result, spending less time repositioning the car.
But women were quicker at finding a spot, a result attributed to the fact that men often missed spaces by driving through car parks too fast, and more of them chose to reverse in, the method preferred by instructors.
And after all the manoeuvres were complete, 53 per cent of women were found to have parked in the centre of the space, compared to only 25 per cent of men.

" men often missed spaces by driving through car parks too fast, and more of them chose to reverse in, the method preferred by instructors."
Every idiot knows that it is much quicker and easier to park straight in as against reversing in. No wonder this "study" found out that women park faster and more centrally.

For what it's worth, I've seen three parking incidents happen in front of my eyes to date.
In case #1 - It was a woman in a small car who was parking on the university ring road in front of the faculty of civil engineering. She went in at too big an angle and ended up scratching the hubcaps on the left of the car on the low wall that runs around the left of this part of the road.
Case #2 - A woman parking a small white 80's small car, same place, even steeper angle - ended up hitting the back left side of the bumper with the wall
Case #3 - A man in his 40's driving a mini cooper with alloy wheels, parking in front of St James hospital - the pavement had a large chip missing from the stone, and he managed to climb it with his front wheel, then turned the steering wheel in the opposite direction and drove forwards just enough for the wheel to fall off the pavement again, making a massive scratch in an otherwise spotless looking car. I almost cried - as did the driver.

First they say that blonde women (natural) are not dumb, in fact more intelligent and proud then other coloured hair women, now women are better parkers?! Yeah right, what next, women can go to the moon and back just by holding their breath?!
I have nothing against women but 5 years of driving made me witness some of the dumbest, most unbelievable car accidents and horrible parking ever and all were women drivers.

Now another study shall tell us who have more parking sensors installed, men or women? Because we all know, that women make use of mirror only for one thing.

If this study had to be done in Malta then it would probably be. How long it takes to find parking. No time at all (double parking will do) parking in the center? (Ok to park with half the car in the road) Reverse parking? We don't even know what it means! In Malta the study should read " Drive and Park as you please where you please"

So that's why there are so many F1 drivers who are women ... oh wait ...
besides this is not an issue of gender, both genders are just as good and as bad at driving/parking

Wow, good point! So many F1 competitions revolve around the drivers' parking skills...

parking is a subsection of driving ergo if you know how to drive (i.e. control a car) you should know how to park,
besides I said in the second part that really women and men are just as good and as bad.
Did I say anything that was wrong in my statement? are there any women in F1?? NO

haha then it is 100% that the research was carried out by women... unless they researched 18 year old men and 35 years old women (experience counts)

That women are more careful and make sure to park exactly in the correct spot I would agree, but the study should focus on the least manoeuvres, speed and precision all together. Then the results would be completely different.
