TVM continues to lead TV ratings
TVM, Radio Malta show strongest growth rates
TVM led local television viewership in the last quarter of last year, according to a Broadcasting Authority survey.
Bay Radio attracted the highest number of radio listeners, but those listening to One Radio did so for a longer time, the survey showed.
The BA said the total number of radio listeners decreased by 4.9% when compared to the summer and was also down by 3.3% over October-December 2010.
Bay Radio had the highest percentage of listeners, increasing its share by 0-.66% to 20.42% over the same period in 2010. One Radio saw an increase of 1.4% to 13.68% while Radio Malta was third at 10.88%, which was 4.08% higher than in the same period in the previous year.
When the analysis focus on the hours which listeners spent listening to the radio per week, One Radio came first, followed by Bay and Radio Malta.
TELEVISION
The number of television viewers increased by 4.97% over the summer but was 1.9% lower than at the end of 2010.
TVM had a daily average audience share of 37% followed by One at 20.8% and Net at 6.4% during the quarter under review.
TVM increased the number of viewers over the same period of 2010 by 6.06%. One was up by 0.87% and Net lost 0.48%.
An analysis of each TV station by quarter saw TVM with the highest seasonal fluctuations, losing 10% of its viewers to other stations in the summer

TVM has improved a lot in the few years, and there are quite some interesting high quality programs, you just have to know when they air. As for drama, production quality has improved, but storyline is still poor. I've seen some Deceduti episodes and they are quite funny.

That's because we're in Malta, not in the UK etc... ;) In the UK, people watch UK TV, in Germany, people watch German TV... in Malta, at least, TVM has transformed it's self into a good TV channel... They show great british comedy, and also great movies which are not from the 70's! But Movies from just 4 years ago or so.
Also, the breakfast show TVAM is a real thumbs up which keeps you hooked up, as it's fast moving and very informative.
Keep it up TVM!
...Mr. Camilleri, if you don't like it, just enjoy watching your foreign stations... I do watch foreign stations, however when it comes to news and discussion programmes, TVM will be my number one station, and I look forward for it's launch in HD in the next few months or year or so.

Can someone please explain how are surveys conducted? How many persons are interviewed? Are the same persons interviewed? Because it is amazing year in and out each survey always produces the same results with a few percentage diffierence.
For instance how come Sunday evening programmes on TVM from 1700 to 1915 are all oriented towards fashion where at such times especially in winter time it should air programmes for the whole family?
With all the repeats galore aired on all local stations, I wonder why not foreign TV channels come into the survey.

Yesterday TVM reported the opposition leader saying that TVM is basically crap and that people were choosing. How right Dr Muscat was.... this survey showed that more people were choosing TVM. It's obvious that people are choosing it because it is better. Dr Muscat's judgement even on TVM is incorrect!

"Net at 6.4% during the quarter under review." No wonder, when one considers that instead of News they only give political propaganda. Besides that, they read the news as if in a hurry to go to the nearest toilet. They have no respect for their viewers. Then there is the sound 'going up and down' - it goes up during edverts and down during the reading od the news. They never learn.

I sincerely hope that some of the quality shows such as Deceduti will be able to be exported to other EU countries and the world. Simply put, in many cases, TVM shows are much more amusing and interesting than those shown elsewhere. TO boost things higher, perhaps, subtitles for the tourists - and a couple of other English or Italian shows. THank you for such a wonderful station.

It is still a VERY BORING TV station to watch, apart from the eight o'clock news whivh is probably the best news to watchand even then there is not much worth watching.
