From its commercial success, no one can say that its not a part of our culture.

Another way to put it, you try to promote the love, they give you all the hate.

No Mr. Pulis, seriously, for those who want to know. In 496 A.D. some 1500 years ago Pope Gelasius introduced it as a feast and died the same year after just 4 years. It was called Lupercania. It was an ancient Roman pagan feast for purification of the body and fertility. In 1969Pope Paul 6th. deleted it from the Roman Calender of saints. So which pope or popes got it wrong?. Ironically Pope Gelasius was declared a saint too. Other religious holidays with pagan overtones was Easter or "Ishtar" a pagan goddess. She was a widow when she had a baby and told one and all that her pregnancy was from the spirit of her husband. She had a son called "Tamuz". Carved effigies have been found of her holding a baby. Sounds familiar?. There are other stories but they're for next time. Anthony C. Abela Melb. Aust.

Hello, my name is Mindy and I am located in Michigan, USA. What is the best way to find a long lost relative in Malta? I can't find a yellow/white pages online. I am trying to find my mother in laws long lost sister. I tried mailing a letter to her last known address but never received a response. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

It is not a public holiday because like most other holidays, it is nothing more than a business venture. Another call for the consumer to spend more money. These holidays are very well syndicated and properly advertised. Why not make public holidays of Mother's Day, Father's Day, Grandma's Day, Grandpas's Day, Children's Day and so on and so forth. We should have a public holiday celebrating every Saint. We already have too many public holidays as it is. Karl don't forget to take home some flowers on Valentine's Day? Alas we all have to report for work on St Valentine's Day. By the way every day should be considered " Lover's Holiday" don't you think? Love makes the world go round.

That's one religious feast atheists are forced to observe; and they'd better or there will be hell to pay! In fact hell is when a man forgets it's St Valentine's day. This tends to bring out the devil in their wives.

If Valentine's Day was a holiday...
1. People wouldn't be able to flirt at work.
2. Girls wouldn't be able to show off and talk all day about where their lovers are taking them for dinner that evening.
3. Unattached girls wouldn't be able to doll themselves up and score a date for the night with someone at work or close by.
4. Girls wouldn't be able to go in threes to the ladies and chat and coo and carry on for 15 minutes every 15 minutes.
5. Faint hearts wouldn't have the opportunity to ask out that person at work they've been wanting to take out for ages.
There would be many more reasons I'm sure.

Its also for boys you know, unless girls love only themselves!

Maybe a bit sexist here? Can't blame it all on the girls, if I remember correctly, it takes two to tango.

Why should it be?In recent years this day has been exploited by card manufacturers(the only thing one used to receive in the past-if one had an admirer ) flower- sellers, restaurants, hotels, et al who jump on the price increase bangwagon to take advantage of largely gullible(love-struck) people who feel constrained to shell out excessively for a date(literally) in the middle of Feb.when normally these traders would be compelled to lower their prices due to lack of custom. As I said -nothing but exploitation and nothing to do with love -except the love of money perhaps.Only one man had the right idea on how to truly celebrate this so-called "lover's day"(for every or any day may be determined as such) -and that man was AL CAPONE!
