Mqabba floor Spartans

Mqabba boosted their chances of retaining their place in the top flight when they beat struggling Hamrun Spartans at the Hibs Stadium this afternoon.

The match turned out to be a hard-fought encounter that looked heading for a draw. However a blunder by Hamrun goalkeeper Omar Borg handed Mqabba's opener.

In fact the clock marked 84 minutes when the Hamrun no.1 failed to hold onto David Azzopardi's long range drive adn Bojan Mamic was on hand to ram the ball home.

The Spartans tried to fight back but their efforts were ended a minute from time when in a quick break Mazzitelli raced through but his shot was blocked by Borg but from the rebound Ryan Sammut fired the ball into the net.

Mqabba's Marko Potezica was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
