Man caught with drugs in Zejtun
A young man from Marsaxlokk was caught with a considerable amount of drugs in Zejtun this afternoon. The drugs were packaged and ready for trafficking.
The man is a first time offender. Members of the Drug Squad had been observing the area and the man's movements for some time.
Inspector JJ Fenech from the Drug Squad is investigating.

first time offender? same as the english guys,
(1) english guys get caught with cannabis
(2) both first time offenders
(3) after waiting for his case to come to court
over a few years no (1) english guy reforms
gets engaged, has 3 month old baby and steady employment
(sentence 10 and a half years in prison and €20,000 + in fines )
english guy no (2) approx same sentence
guy no (1) loses his steady employment, and 10 and half years on missing his child grow up
so much for trying and succeding to reform, he would have got the same sentence.
CIANTER a serial offender, will not reform, has no steady work it seems
and attacks reporters, drives without official documents time and again, nearly kills twin girls,
caught not with cannabis but a class A drug and gets fined €800 and no prison sentence.
i think its time i personally go over the heads of the maltese justice system and ask the EU to investigate discrimination here in malta, its no wonder our nominee for the post of EU promoter of the justice in brussels failed the test while xenaphobia and discrimination like this is allowed to carry on with-in the maltese justice system

@ Mr Neville Cassar
I fail to agree on both points that you have mentioned.
1st. My point is that other news involving people from other localities is treated differently. On the same day there were 10 similar news items and no other places were mentioned in the headlines. You can check for yourself.
2nd. If approx 10 criminals (80s) out of 14,000 residents for you is 'many residents' then you should get your maths right.
@ Gordon Swain
The point is not about M'xlokk or Zejtun. The point is that different rules are applied for different news items involving peole coming from different places.
@ Luke Lanzon
My point has nothing to do with politics. We were victims of both parties in the 80s. MLP did not control his supporters and PN inflated the news for political gain.

Dear Neville Cassar,
It is very clear that you were not around at that time and you read the wrong history. You said many of the Zejtun people had a share in it. How wrong. The few were used and some of them paid for what they done and the top brass in the police got promotions immediately the Nationalist got in power. The same top brass which were involved in shooting at Rabat and which were being exposed as political
police officers on the labour side.
If all other the people in Malta were as good hearted and hard workers as the Zejtun people, Malta would have flourished immensely.

The man is not from Zejtun, so why did you put it in the title?
This is your rule for negative news related to the south of Malta.
If someone has at least 0.01% connection with Zejtun, then its an opportunity to put 'Zejtun' in a negative news headline. If he 'is from', 'living in' or 'caught in', you always put Zejtun in the title. You should use the same guidelines for all news. (I hope that the 80s/90s agenda is over by now).

Mr. Magro unfortunately the 80s and 90s are not going to be forgotten unless PN are not going to stop making political agenda. Even though these times were condemned by Pl several times, also they don’t mention that in the 96 nothing happened and Labour supporters celebrated in peaceful manner even they terrified people that we are going back to the 80’s. Unfortunately they don't mention how we where black listed because of these political years all of us that live in Zejtun.

Excuse Me Mr. Magro but your comment does not make sense at all. What's wrong with the title? It simply says the truth... He was caught in Zejtun, so what should TOM reported? That he was caught in Mellieha or Mosta??? And why are you mentioning 80s??? If there is a stigma.... I'm truly sorry about it, but history cannot be cancelled and that stigma was put there by the same people of Zejtun... Not all of them, but many of Zejtun residents ''had a share'' of what happened in the past.

He is only a first time offender, because this is the first time that he was caught.

When someone is caught with drugs in Paceville, the location hardly features in the text. The same happens with all other localities, except for a few towns in the south.
Do we really need Zejtun blaring in the headline like that?

well said! The times follow this predictable pattern:
Man from Sliema, living in Zejtun - TITLE 'ZEJTUN MAN'
Man from Zejtun, living in Sliema - TITLE 'ZEJTUN MAN'
Man from Sliema, caught in Zejtun - TITLE 'ZEJTUN MAN'
Man from Zejtun, caught in Sliema - TITLE 'ZEJTUN MAN'

He is a first time offender and that means an automatic Suspended Sentence, because that is the way it works in Maltese Courts. So where did this young man get his drug supply? Inspector Fenech, when you finish with this young man, go after the big fish because that is the only way you are going to stop the drug trafficking. Maybe you can start in one of the Posh Prisons, Hotel Corradino and or Hotel Mt Carmel Hospital at Attard. You need to get to the main supplier, find out how all these drugs are being imported and sneaked into this little island. Drug trafficking and Human trafficking seem to be done very easily on our little island. Start offering rewards for people who can turn-in these El Capos, of course these informers have to be kept anonymous. Money talks and bullshit walks. Talk money and you should have your answers. Maybe a bit of compromise with the offender is not a bad idea, but you know that already..

They certainly will not get the main suppliers as they have a protected concession and as long as certain individuals in high places get their cut, things will go on "business as usual."
The small fry drug dealers that are not part of this concession or are selling to the detriment of the "official agent" are the ones that get arrested as they are cutting in and do not have the right to sell drugs and their arrest will give the false impression that something is being done and it justifies the police budget, it is a win win situation.
This setup is to be found in all western countries and it is not a "Malta only" thing.
The so called war on drugs is a false war.

i dont know if you understood the article... it says he was caught with a considerable amount of drugs already packed and to be trafficked... although he is a first time offender he is still considerd as a drug trafficker... i think he is not the biggest fish but still a fish big enough worth the time chasing and prosecuting
