I find it quite disturbing that both here in the UK and there in Malta, emigrating to Australia and New Zealand, who had those terrible Earthquakes, gets so much attention and interest and then this happens due to the country simply not having the resources to deal with such rainfall. Buy a home in Australia and while you are at it get adequate insurance too.

Dear Sir,
You do not need to worry about the place. All are informed of the areas in particular and all know what they are in for.
When you go and purchase or rent land you'll be fully informed of where you'll be going. Telling Aussies to insure themselves is like telling them to eat to live!
Australia is a very large place. The problem is the local council's or the state's and not the people residing there.
If there is coal in the area it stays there!
