On top of the national record by Andrea Agius, who swam the 200m breaststroke in 2 minutes 27.83, there were other good performances by the Maltese squad of seven swimmers who took part in the Luxembourg International Euro Meet a few days ago.
These came mainly from Agius, again, Nicola Muscat and Mark Sammut, with Julian Harding and Andrea M. Agius also recording good times by their own standards.
Andrea Agius, Sammut and Muscat all went close to breaking the national records in the 100 breast, 200 back and 100 free respectively while Harding managed to win a silver and bronze medal in the 50 and 100 butterfly respectively in his age category.
In all, the swimmers, under the charge of coach Andy Colbourn, took part in 19 races.
The meeting was marked by the presence of Ian Thorpe, the Australian icon, who was among hundreds of entries from 28 different countries.
