Opposition to vote against Education Bill
The opposition was in favour of the Education (Amendment) Bill but as it was a money Bill, it would be voting against it, opposition spokesman on education Evarist Bartolo said on Wednesday.
Continuing the debate on the Bill in second reading, Mr Bartolo said that the Bill analysed the licensing and crediting of educational institutions to safeguard the interests of young people. There had been cases where students had been awarded certificates which were not accredited.
He said the National Commission for Higher Education had to be proactive and take initiative in analysing advertising and the way institutions presented their courses. There had been cases where a minister was invited to the opening of an institution to give the impression of its credibility.
However, the Bill would not be improving the quality of education. It was important for institutions to hold a culture of good quality education, he said.

If Labour is in favour of such a bill then whether it is a money bill or not it should vote in favour. Or maybe labour is hoping that by voting against they will bring down the government therefore putting their partisan interest adhead of the countries and our children's education. And they want to govern next. With such reasoning..... me first and forgrt the common good..... doubt if I would vote for them

@ E Azz - * GC, if the goverment , as the PN are insisting , has not lost its majority it shouldn't be a problem , or will it be. This decision will either force FD to vote with the goverment and hence save it or force an election if as i understand the speakler is not allowed to vote.

So Labour agrees, but it will vote against it. What reasoning is this? Well, yes, it is a money bill, I forgot!! You have lost points with me on this one. I have ticked -10 from your amount, obviously FOR THE INTEREST OF THE COUNTRY!!!!

Opportunizmu tal-prima klassi.
And they expect us to believe that they are in no rush for an election. They are in favour of the law but will vote against it.

Mela l-oppozizzjoni taqbel mal-Educ.Bill imma mhix se tivvota favur ghax hu money bill. Kif nifhimha jien din mhix maturita'. Mhix pragmatizmu, bhal ma jghidu l-Americani:it's good if it ticks' . Minn meta l-oppozizzjoni tilfet il-maturita u flok qieghda hemm biex ticcekkja, tibbilancja lil-gvern, tghin fl-izvilupp ta' Malta , tissostjieni id-demokrazija tal-pajjiz, tghin fil-bzonn anke lill-istess gvern basta fil-gid jew fl-emergenzi li jinqalghu, insomma tkun konstruttiva u mhux distruttiva. Dawn idejquh l-l-floating voter, biex l-oppoizizzjoni tagharaf timxi.

What is the position of the education authorities concerning "schools" that are teaching their students that the universe is 6000 years old, as well as refusing to provide the students with a basic science education?
