Transport Minister Austin Gatt’s son, Gegè, yesterday filed a libel suit against the Labour Party’s director of information, Kurt Farrugia, over allegations broadcast on the party’s television and radio stations on January 20.

In his suit, Dr Gatt complained that allegations were made about him, specifically those implying connections between his information technology companies, including Icon and Nuovo, and the Nationalist Party, with an allegation that the company only grew because of this link.

Dr Gatt said it was alleged that he would be using his companies’ resources to unleash malicious personal attacks on Labour leader Joseph Muscat as part of the Nationalist Party’s electoral campaign.

Dr Gatt insisted that the allegations were made to tarnish his reputation and called on the court to liquidate damages.
