Arriva in buy one get one free promotion
Arriva is this month giving residents purchasing one-day carnet tickets, another one free of charge, the company said.
It said in a statement this was part of its Buy 1 Get 1 Free and the offer, for anyone with a resident ID card, was valid until stocks last.
"Arriva's Buy 1 Get 1 Free offer is one way in which we want to thank our customers for using our services, while encouraging others who might not have had the chance to travel with us to purchase a Carnet ticket and board a bus.
"Indeed, this offer also ties into Arriva's efforts to encourage more people to leave their cars at home and use public transport, thus avoiding the stress and hassle of driving, traffic congestions and looking for parking. Travelling by bus allows you to travel in comfort, without stress and in safety, and you would also be safeguarding our precious environment from pollution," an Arriva spokesman said.
Arriva's carnet tickets can be bought from Arriva's ticket booths in Valletta, Buġibba and Malta International Airport, Agenda bookstores, Lotto booths, Till Late convenience stores, and authorised outlets.
The company said that in the coming weeks, it will be announcing incentives on carnet tickets for non-residents.

I have already bought some of these tickets and used them yesterday and I presumed that they would help reduce the time it takes to pay the driver while he issues the ticket therefore making the journey quicker. WRONG. You still have to give it to the driver, he detaches part of it and then he issues a normal ticket from the machine which you have to keep with the remaining piece of your ticket. How's that for efficiency. Why can't we do anything right in this blessed country.

Is there a time frame on these Carnet tickets? Usually I use buses once a month, so if I buy one this month I wouldn't use the other one for another month.
People will use buses more regularly once the side-tracking and scenic routes are removed. People want the old bus routes again and be able to get to A to B in the shortest possible time.

"without stress and in safety" - this morning a bus crashed into a tree in Hal Tarxien. Safe indeed dear citizens.

Last time I checked, they still insisted on a time-window for their Arriva Cards.... something Vodafone and Go removed years ago....
Get real Arriva... it's my money and I decide when to use it!

I am glad to see that this possibility is now being introduced. For frequent travelers many countries offer, in addition to single tickets, the option of buying a booklet of 10 tickets - which is then at a somewhat discounted price. I would like to suggest this model as a permanent method for the future.

To start using your service, first of all we need to have a service! The 35 bus to Gharghur at 7.05am hasn't turned up once in the past two weks. Everyday we have to walk to Naxxar to catch a bus. Leave cars at home! You must be joking. Not with the kind of service that Arriva is providing!!

Whilst thanking Arriva for this offer, I reluctantly have to say Thank You but No Thank You! Arriva have still not solved, not all due to their fault, the main problem in their bid to lure more new customers; ie Getting from A to B in a respectable time at peak hours. Although complaints have been reduced, I think it is more due to people giving up rather than problems being solved. True, the re-installed old routes have solved some problems, but I think we are still far away from what was promised. As an example - I work in Valletta - and if I use Arriva I would use up at least an extra hour every day in transport. To me this is unacceptable, and was the reason I didn't use the public transport system in the first place. Another point - Why are the stainless steel shelf corners pointed and protruded in the newly installed Arriva orange glass kiosks in Valletta? To me these look very dangerous especially as they are the height of children and in an area where there could be crowding. How come safety is so low in our priorities?

Mr Zammit,
as you said "Getting from A to B in a respectable time at peak hours" i can assure you that even me in my car time is not respectable , let alone the public transport. Last week from A "Naxxar" to B "luqa" took me 1hr and a half! as much as having a flight to Rome!.

Stephen, sadly you will find that not all old routes were re-installed.
We are still waiting for the No.71 to be re-installed.

Very nice of Arriva! So wonderful to see that they care about our environment. That much cannot be said of MEPA and the relevant Ministry. Valletta has been dealt yet another big blow with the building of the ghastly ''high rise Valletta eyesore right behind the law courts. What was the Minister responsible doing at the time? How on earth was that permit granted? That eyesore needs to be taken down a.s.a.p.
Also how about stopping the illegal pumping of Malta's potable water. And the pollution generated by fish farms? Why does this administration just look the other way on issues like these? Why the arrogance and the laissez faire Hon. Prime Minister and Cabinet?
