This was a game played at a frantic pace.

Chances, however, were few and far between with Young Stars having a shot smothered by the goalkeeper early on while Qormi did not avail themselves of a penalty corner.

Deadlock was broken on 19 minutes when John Williams slotted home to give Qormi a 1-0 lead.

A period of balanced midfield play followed. But then, two minutes into the second half, Qormi forced two penalty corners and as a result of the second, Owen Piscopo found the net to put his team 2-0 up.

Further Qormi pressure to increase their lead came to no avail and Young Stars halved the deficit in the 64th minute through Edward Hughes after another penalty corner action.

Although Young Stars pressed hard to try and equalise in the final minutes, the score remained unchanged leaving Qormi winners of a hard fought and interesting encounter.
