Interviewing the contestants for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is always great fun. The majority of them are invariably so excited/busy that they tend to get easily distracted, jumping from one sentence to another for all the world as though they’re getting ready for the long-jump rather than to perform on stage.
Adorable? Very.
Amusing? Extremely.
Especially since I am evil enough to have compiled a list with the top ten interview bloopers.
Of course I’m not (totally) an evil monster, so let me hasten to add that I appreciate that all 24 contestants are under quite a bit of stress at the moment and with that in mind we will close an eye and go easy on them.
But hey, show-business is also all about the light-hearted moments and I’m sure that the singers will take this collection of howlers in the good spirit they’re meant. We are reproducing them below verbatim and complete with emoticons (for which read, don’t blame us for any typos!). Can you hazard a guess at which singer is responsible for which statement? Our lips are sealed...
“Reading? I don’t do much at the moment but it’s something I’d like to get into.”
“You’ll find everything on my MP3 player...From Oprah to R’n’B...”
“I’m a clean freak.”
“I like [name of singer] and other black sounding voices.”
“It’s been since I read a book. I get annoyed reading very long stories.”
“Anything that is discussed means that it is getting attention, so it can't be so bad.”
“The Eurovision festival, it’s not another singer’s festival.”
“I own a family :O”
Q: What is your reply to criticisms levelled at the contest?
A: LOL.
Q: Why do you think Malta has never managed to win the title so far?
A: ‘Cause we’ve not come 1st place yet!!!
