Inter moved to offset the departures of midfielders Sulley Muntari and Thiago Motta to Milan and Paris SG respectively with a triple signing on transfer deadline day yesterday.
Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin, Italy midfielder Angelo Palombo and Brazilian defender Juan have all joined.
Guarin, 25, joins from Porto on a four-and-a-half year deal following spells at Boca Juniors and French side St Etienne. He won two Portuguese titles with Porto and last season’s Europa League.
Palombo, who was part of the Italy squad at the 2010 World Cup, spent the last six months in Serie B after refusing to leave relegated Sampdoria.
But the 30-year-old has now joined the Nerazzurri on loan until the end of the season with an option to a permanent three-year deal at that juncture.
The 20-year-old Juan, not to be confused with his compatriot and namesake at Roma, has signed from Internacional until 2016.
Italy midfielder Motta completed a €10 million move to PSG.
Informed sources said that the three parties involved had agreed on a deal that would see the 29-year-old Motta join the Ligue 1 leaders on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Muntari made only four appearances for Inter this season. He is on Africa Cup duty and won’t be able to play for the Rossoneri until Ghana are eliminated.
Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri believes this is the move Muntari needs to kick-start his career.
“This is an important chance for him having not done well at Inter,” said Allegri.
“He’s a good player, so far he’s not fulfilled his technical and physical qualities.”
Milan also signed young Brazilian forward Lucas Roggia according to Internacional president Giovanni Luigi. The 21-year-old has joined for a year with the view to gaining European experience before returning.
Elsewhere, Chievo have signed centre-back Dario Dainelli on loan from Genoa and Argentine goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo has moved to Catania from Lazio until June.
The Sicilian side yesterday let Argentine defender Pablo Alvarez leave to join Real Zaragoza.
Fiorentina have let midfielder Gianni Munari leave for Sampdoria on a permanent deal.
In other transfer moves, Lyon loaned their 20-year-old forward Ishak Belfodil to Bologna while midfielder Michele Pazienza returned to Udinese on loan from Juventus having failed to secure a regular place in the Serie A leaders’ team since moving from Napoli in the summer.
