Labour leader Joseph Muscat has promised the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association that he would reduce expenses and bureaucracy, as well as better manage touristic areas.
First and foremost, however, Labour would remove the prevailing uncertainty, he said. MHRA president Anthony Zahra said the current political and economic situation had created difficulties for the sector.
While the island was reaping results, operators remained in the same position because of higher costs.
He said MHRA was not convinced that all Enemalta’s expenses were correct and prices could not be improved. Meanwhile, the PN issued a reaction saying that while tourism had dried up in other countries, Malta continued to reach one record after another. Instead of handing out subsidies, the government made investments to generate commercial activity and create jobs.
