Majority lost (1)
Lawrence Gonzi, with a straight face, repeated a number of times, that “the problem is not Franco Debono but Joseph Muscat”. Who in Malta believes that the problem which has arisen for Dr Gonzi and his government, is not due to Dr Debono’s public statements, asking for the resignation of Dr Gonzi as Prime Minister? And of the “clique” surrounding the Prime Minister?
Dr Gonzi’s stupid statement was expected since he blames all the ills affecting our country and his government, on Dr Muscat and the Labour Party. Such hilarious statements continue to undermine the little credibility Dr Gonzi may still have. And they give more credibility to Dr Debono’s harsh criticism of Dr Gonzi as leader of the party and Prime Minister.
The vote on Labour’s motion of no confidence ended in a draw. As from the time the Speaker announced the result, Dr Gonzi officially knew that he no longer commanded a majority of MPs in Parliament. No democratic prime minister who boasts of democratic credentials would accept to carry on as if nothing has happened in Parliament with Dr Debono’s abstention! The Prime Minister may continue to bluff his way to gain more time to enable his party to use all the power of incumbency to try and reverse the difficult position GonziPN is in. That this instability is not in the interest of our country seems to be the last thing on Dr Gonzi’s mind!
Undoubtedly he will finally have to suffer the political consequences for his irresponsibility in not putting an end to this instability, if he fails to call a general election in the shortest time possible!

Mr Privitera has an obnoxious habit of calling stupid any argument which he disagrees with, which of course, reflects by implication the state of mind of whoever uttered the statement in the first place. I still remember his letters in L-Orizzont in January 2010 when he insisted in one letter after another that the Government was taking all pensioners for a ride when the same Government stated that pensioners were being given the whole pension year after year instead of two-thirds pension as they used to receive before. The titles of his letters at the time were "Jiddiehku bil-pensjonanti". It finally took a letter by none other than a Director of the Social Security Ministry (Mr Mark Musu') to stop him in his tracks from uttering further inanities in his newspaper letters. A bit of humility never hurt anyone, especially those who thrive on critisizing ad nauseam their political antagonists.
