The card at the Marsa Racetrack for the fourth meeting of the season yesterday consisted of eight all-trotting events, all on the 2,140m distance.

Gozitan Shaun Portelli was the meeting’s best driver with three wins to his credit in different categories.

The Premier Class race, the seventh in programme, was a keenly contested affair with the tussle for glory involving mainly True Q and Bonus Kall.

At the post, it was Portelli’s True Q that clinched first place, just half-a-length ahead of Bonus Kall with Solid Lady Spin a close third.

She’s Dreamlike won the first Gold race of the afternoon.

Driven by Julian Farrugia, She’s Dreamlike took the lead a lap from the finish and never relinquished its position. Nicos de Peneme and Ouragan followed the winner home in that order.

On the other hand, Label Chouan (David Ellul) had quite an easy win in the other Gold race.

In fact, the second horse past the post, Reado November, was some two lengths behind at the end of the race.

Victory in the first Silver Class race of the day at the racetrack went to favourite Sweep the Floor, driven by Gozitan Julian Farrugia. Second place went to Nympheta De Bisoir.

Having led for most of the distance, Must du Buisson (Cliferty Calleja) had to go all the way in the last few metres of the second Silver Class race to stave off the challenge of Knockout Molar.

Meanwhile, Morgan Kane (Shaun Portelli) met no particular trouble in one of the two Bronze Class races after finishing ahead of runner-up Lady Holmely by no fewer than six lengths.

Earlier, Portelli had started the meeting on a fine note after steering Newmarket Boy to victory in a Copper Class event, the opening race of the afternoon programme at Marsa.
