The University’s Department of Education Studies is conducting a critical literacy project in Żejtun, whereby participants meet to discuss current affairs, and after further reflection at home, express their analysis by writing poems and other forms of writing in their local dialect and through traditional folk singing. Participants can tackle issues like globalisation, the world economic order, social exclusion, social justice, democracy, health and the environment.

They then continue their reflection at home and return to the group after a fortnight, after having further identified with the general themes.

The project, which is being led by Carmel Borg and Maria Brown from the department, will end in April.
