Residents at Villa Messina, Rabat, were recently taken through a presentation on dental maintenance, sponsored by denture care product Corega.
Dental hygienists Veronica Montebello and Jacqueline Schembri explained the importance of oral hygiene and its extensive benefits for overall health.
During the talk, good den-ture cleaning practices were explained within the context of one’s overall health and comfort. “A recent World Dental Congress confirmed that unclean dentures are a chronic source of potentially harmful bacteria and fungi that may be associated with oral disease and increase the risk of diseases like heart diseases, hypertension and diabetes.
Denture adhesives help stabilise dentures and improve chewing efficiency. Evidence shows that people who experience denture discomfort while eating are prone to avoid certain foods and have a lower nutritional intake. This in turn leads to suppression of immune system functionality and an increase in the chances of developing oral and other diseases.
Proper denture care includes brushing and soaking dentures and partials with the right products. Apart from cleansers, the Corega range includes adhesive creams and powder, specifically designed to help keep dentures effective.
