Representatives of nine Tunisian bio-food firms were in Malta on a trade mission over the last few days for a series of one-to-one meetings with local companies. The meetings were facilitated by Malta Enterprise at its Guardamangia premises where an exhibition of Tunisian food and beverage products was set up.

Maltese firms were able to examine the potential of expanding to Tunisia, and learn more about the business environment following the revolution that started the democratisation process last year.

Discussions focused on the possibility of sourcing packaging products from local companies, the use of the Freeport for the transshipment of goods, and the establishment of joint ventures in Malta. The business delegation is the latest in a series of bilateral initiatives designed to strengthen commercial ties, following two separate trade missions to Tunis last year.

The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry and l’Union Tunisienne de l’Industrie, du Commerce et de l’Artisanat also established the Malta-Tunisia Business Council in Tunis.
