Rental scheme launched by Housing Authority
The Housing Authority has launched a rental scheme Skema Kiri to invite owners to lease their vacant residential property to the authority for a minimum of 10 years. These properties will then be sublet to applicants on the authority's priority list.
Owners letting their vacant properties to the authority will benefit from a secure rental income for at least 10 years, and benefit from an advantageous withholding tax rate of five per cent.
The authority will accept applications from any locality in Malta and Gozo. Rental fees of over €400 will not be considered.
Applications are against a payment of €20 payment.

We all have eyes to see and I suppose the properties on the rental scheme will then be sublet to the illegal immigrants. I prefer to call this measure 'mongrelization by stealth'

There will undoubtedly be a mad gadarene rush to snap up this offer-YEAH RIGHT!You will never get a property owner who leases or rents his property to declare this as a rental property and pay any tax whatsoever -given that they have gotten away with not paying any tax at all for ever.

Why not give me my confiscated property back first. Yes I am talking about my property being requisitioned by the government 37 years ago and derequisitioned in 2007. As I explained many times before the derequisition means nothing since I cannot evict the squatters that took over my father's property in 1974. I have to wait for the original squatter to die and then after that I have to wait for her daughter, who is still living in this house, to die or move away. Yeah right! Since she is only paying 185 euro a year rent thanks to the courts. My family and I don't want the measly 185 euro rent a year, we want our confiscated property back, the same way the government took it 37 years ago, EMPTY. How about it Dr Azzoppardi? How can I and my family get our property back empty, like it was taken away from us 37 years ago?

You are right, very right infact.
We have a property in Sliema which has been derequisitioned. However , as you said this does not mean a thing as we cannot get it back . We have to wait for the " Squatter " to die.

What about the Housing Authority built apartments on the Qawra coast road, that where built in 2001 to help those suppossidly in need, and are either still empty or sublet to tourists.
I have written about this a few times in the past, but nobody in authority cares to investigate.
If you think that the Housing Authority cares, better think again.

Rental fees of 400€ will not be accepted, this is a far cry from some porperties the Maltese and the Gozitans are renting them for at a ridiculous price of some 7000€/6000€ and so on per month, now i asked you who the hell can afford to pay as much every calender month, talking about making the maltese property owners rich they are sure laughing all the way to the bank, lets hope they pay taxes same as the average working Maltese. At these asking prices we can afford to rent 2 houses in the UK and Spain, thats greedyness at its best. I think they better think twice and lower the rental value below to what the local government body are proposing as the rest will not have a hope in hell in 2012, because nowadays money is scarce and with the recession looming they will be lossing out. I read somewhrer in this paper that a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush, thats very ture.

Sorry, you are mistaken.
Rental fees of over €400 per year will not be considered.
Don't you know that the minimum wage in Malta ( not Gozo ) is some €150 weekly.
