New Floriana car park
A new car park is being proposed in Floriana, which will not contribute to the enhancement of the area but to its uglification! When one enters Valletta towards Castille one is subjected to the unfinished project of the MCP car park “quarry”.
The gaping hole should be built up creating at least another 800 vitally needed car spaces and landscaped according to the permit outlined by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.
I am completely baffled that the government is spending millions of euros on the Renzo Piano project and the MCP car park a few metres away is left unfinished.
Can someone please explain why it’s not being tackled? And possibly let’s finish this one first!

The building of yet another car park in Floriana proves that the Arriva service has failed to lure drivers from their cars. This car park goes against the minister's promise the the new bus service will reduce the number of cars on the roads.

Very valid comments. Get MCP to start filling that hole as stipulated in the conditions.

The answer is the word MEPA. That should give you all the answers you are seeking?

When the contract for the Floriana Car Park was awarded, one of the conditions was that it would be roofed over and landscaped. When it was safely in the bag, this was "forgotten" - thus saving the owners a fortune in lighting, ventilation, etc.

I wish that the Times would publish the 'artists' impressions' of the Floriana MCP car park which were created to fool the public before the car park was built. They must be there somewhere in the archive as I had seen them first in the Times. I especially remember the greenery and the landscaping. Then juxtapose that image with the reality we have today. Its a shame, there is no other word for it.

MEPA has them locked up in its safe. So also the Renzo Piano promise that the new building would give us a better view of St, James Cavalier - unless he is going to cloak the whole building in a cloak of invisibility. Twice fooled already!
