University of Malta graduates can now add Melit. to their degree abbreviations.

The University’s Senate has decided to accept a proposal made by doctorate graduate Roger Vella Bonavita, that the word Melit. be added after the abbreviated name of all University of Malta awards.

The aim is to identify the graduates’ alma mater. In this case, the addition is an abbreviated form of the Latin name for Malta: Melita. This follows the tradition of using the Latin name for towns and cities.
