Internal auditing is still in its infancy in Malta but it has a pivotal role to play in promoting corporate governance, professionals attending a conference organised by the Malta Forum for Internal Auditors heard.

The discipline has much to contribute in enhancing the quality of business management in general, in instilling trust in our organisations and in attracting new investment to our shores.

The conference, at the Corinthia Palace hotel in Attard, focused on the evolving role of the internal auditor and the progressive developments in the profession.

Presentations were given by Mapfre internal audit general manager José Manuel Muries Navarro and RSM Tenon’s technical di-rector for internal audit and risk management Rachel Bowden.

Local speakers included RSM Malta founding partner Maria Micallef and KPMG Malta advisory services partner Juanita Bencini.

The discussion was chaired by Misco founding partner and managing director Joseph F.X. Zahra.

The event was the latest event held by the forum since 2007, under its strategic objectives which focus on education, professional and best practice, and awareness.

The organisation is to launch a membership campaign. Interested professionals may contact forum committee secretary Andre Farrugia at andrefarrugia@mitcentre.com.
