About 20 Minis will be recalled by Muscat Motors over the coming weeks to have a part replaced after the car makers detected a fault that could lead to overheating.
The official Mini dealers in Malta will be contacting the owners of the two high-end models, the Cooper S and the John Cooper Works, to have a new water pump fitted. These models have an additional water pump on their turbo-charged engines and it is the second one that would have to be replaced.
Manufacturers are investigating a case in Britain where a fire is being linked to the pump.
A spokesman for Muscat Motors said there was no cause for alarm and that the recall was a precautionary measure. The vehicles were not dangerous to drive and the replacement would be a quick job.
German car maker BMW said the recall concerned 235,000 vehicles worldwide.
Second-hand imports are not on the company’s official system. Muscats Motors is, however, advising their owners to get in touch with its service department to have the part replaced too.
