Nationalist MEP Simon Busuttil has been re-elected EPP coordinator for the European Parliament's Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (LIBE).

Dr Busuttil was elected by acclamation as there was consensus amongst EPP LIBE members that he should serve for another term of two-and-a-half years.

Speaking to timesofmalta.com this morning soon after his re-election, Dr Busuttil said that he was honoured that the EPP group has once again trusted him with this influential position

"I will work hard to continue helping the EPP shape European laws that promote a citizens' Europe and a safer Europe," Dr Busuttil said.

The nationalist MEP is the only one from Malta's six members in the EP to be elected to an EP post and has already served as coordinator for the past two-and-a-half years.

Addressing MEPs, Dr Busuttil thanked his EPP colleagues and group advisors and assistants for their trust and support.

As a coordinator, he will once again be the EPP group leader in the European Parliament committee on LIBE.

His job is to draw up the group position and speak on behalf of the group, to distribute responsibilities among EPP members and to prepare voting lists for the group and to act as a whip in committee and in plenary.

The EPP has 23 MEP's in the Civil Liberties Committee.
