Nationalist MP Franco Debono, who says he will back the no-confidence motion to be debated next week, did not sit in his usual place in Parliament yesterday when it reconvened after the Christmas recess.

Dr Debono would normally take his place behind the Prime Minister but yesterday he sat on the far left seat at the back on the government side. He was seen in a brief, relaxed conversation with government whip David Agius. Later he moved two seats and sat next to Jesmond Mugliett before leaving the Chamber at about 6.45 p.m.

Question time was held normally and the political crisis seemed distant as ministers replied to questions which ranged from hospital waiting time to sewage overflows, the provision of animal feed, safety at quays and road repairs.
