The Pater Group has officially announced the addition of the Jeep brand to its portfolio of motor brands with three models – the Wrangler, Compass, and Grand Cherokee, available in Malta.

Jeep comes to Malta following an official importation agreement in April 2011, between the Pater Group and Fiat Auto Group, responsible for distributing Jeep in Europe, after the Fiat and Chrysler groups formed a global alliance in June 2009.

Pater Group managing director Francesca Mamo explained the Jeep brand will be showcased at the company’s Valley Road showroom which is undergoing refurbishment to be in line with the marque’s worldwide standards.

Complete after sales service will be offered to new owners of Jeep models and customers who have imported a Jeep from other markets.

“The alliance between Fiat and Chrysler will not only have a strategic influence on the Jeep Brand’s sales activities but is aimed to contribute also towards introducing new platforms, advanced technologies and superior quality thanks to the sharing of technical know-how, manufacturing and environmental best practices,” Ms Mamo said. “Global Jeep sales increased 24 per cent on 2009 with 420,000 units sold. In the US, 291,000 Jeep vehicles were sold in 2010 and the brand posted a 26 per cent growth versus sales in 2009.”

Owned by the Chrysler Group, the brand boasts 70 years of history and a global reputation with a vehicle distribution in more than 120 countries. The first Jeep model was introduced in 1941, since when more than 15 million Jeeps have been produced and distributed worldwide. Six million Jeep vehicles are on the road and Jeep is Chrysler Group’s top selling brand in markets outside North America, comprising 50 per cent of the company’s international sales, Ms Mamo added.

“This is an important step for our operations,” the managing director said. “The Jeep brand has never been marketed in Malta as there was never an official local representative. Our official representation of the Jeep brand is an added opportunity for us to penetrate more aggressively the local SUV segment which we consider as an important segment.”
