The Episcopal ordination of Fr Prospero Grech, Malta’s second cardinal in nearly 200 years, will be held at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta, on February 8.

This was jointly decided by Archbishop Paul Cremona and Fr Grech, after Pope Benedict XVI officially announced his nomination last week, the Curia said.

Fr Prospero will be consecrated by Mgr Giuseppe Versaldi, Archbishop and president of the Holy See’s Prefecture of Economic Affairs. Mgr Versaldi has also been appointed cardinal.

Mgr Cremona and Gozo Bishop Mario Grech will be concelebrating during the ceremony.

Fr Grech is expected to arrive in Malta on February 6.
