Ryanair last Tuesday announced seven new routes from Malta in a move it said will bring its total annual Malta traffic to over one million passengers while sustaining over 1,000 jobs on the island.

The new routes – Bournemouth, Kaunas, London Stansted, Malmö, Oslo Rygge, Turin and Wroclaw – brings Ryanair’s total number of Malta routes to 28.

The new routes, which went on sale last Wednesday, will begin operating in May. They were announced as summer routes but Ryanair said at least five of the seven routes may operate all year round depending on fuel prices.

The Stansted flights will operate four times a week while the rest will run twice a week.

The additional routes were welcomed by local tourism stakeholders including the Malta Hoteliers and Restaurants’ Association, the Malta Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises – GRTU and the Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations Malta.
