I refer to Siegfried Dohse’s letter Valletta And Freedom Square (December 31). If this citizen of Germany lived in Malta all the time he would have witnessed so much more destruction of so many quaint and delightful buildings condemned by the over progressive Malta Environment and Planning Authority. Grand Master de Valette would be turning in his grave to see the “city”, built by gentlemen for gentlemen, turned into a modern capital in contrast with the nearby historic buildings and churches steeped in culture and history.

Let’s hope that the forthcoming embellishment of Spinola Bay, St Julians will give the people of Malta a better deal where the enviorment, history and culture are safeguarded.
Rumours are rife about another massive development in two of St Julians’ narrow streets – Bay and Main.
I urge the people of St Julians to protest with all their might to stop this senseless project and act the way they did in saving Balluta Bay a few years ago.
