The monument supporting the Great Siege Bell in Valletta is being restored after the bell’s faulty mechanism was replaced a few months ago, Resources Minister George Pullicino said. The restoration will cost €10,000 and is part of an extensive Valletta embellishment project. The monument was inaugurated on May 29, 1992, to commemorate the 50th anniversary since Malta was awarded the George Cross and the 7,000 people who died during the Great Siege of 1940-1943.
