The country was shocked on New Year’s Day by the tragic news of the Sliema tragedy that left two young men dead. The news spread fast and left everyone in disbelief.
The memorial services of both victims were held last week and it’s time for everyone to leave the stricken families in peace. They should be allowed to grieve and to come to terms with the tragedy that struck the lives of their loved ones. Enough of the gossip and speculation; no more colourful and fancy theories. Let’s leave it to the competent authorities to carry out their job and arrive at conclusions based on truth and facts. Let’s not make it even harder for the victims’ families. Anyone who experienced an untimely death of a loved one knows how difficult it is to give a reason to such events and the struggle to continue with one’s life.
These families will be facing a different tomorrow than the one they had envisaged and hoped for. The support of relatives is indispensable, particularly for the young mother who has been left to face the arduous task of bringing up her newborn twins on her own. The families involved have a right to move on with their lives, in private, and the police should be allowed to do their job without any interference.
