Ryanair adds more routes to Malta

Low cost airline Ryanair has announced new routes to Malta, including services to London Stansted (four times a week), Oslo (twice a week), Turin (twice a week), Bournemouth (twice a week), Malmo in Sweden (twice a week), Kaunas in Lithuania (twice a week) and Wroclaw in Poland (twice a week).

The new routes will start operating from May 2012.

The new routes were announced by chief operating officer Michael Cawley, who hailed the success of current Ryanair services to Malta.

He said that Ryanair will thus operate 28 routes to Malta. He said they expected to attract a million passengers to Malta within a year.

A seat sale of €9.99 has been announced. Bookings have to be made by Thursday January 12 at midnight.

The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association and the GRTU both welcomed the new services.

Mr Pace, i think you should update yourself about AirMalta..since it will downsize its fleet by 1 in this year...do you think it is feasible to operate more routes with less aircraft keeping in mind that they still need to keep up to the current schedule??

@ Mario Micallef
People do not care how many aircraft Air Malta has. Air Malta has any aircraft because they are all leased. In business, the business is for the people and not the people are for the business. Air Malta is only in haste to get rid of its employees without having a good marketing plan. Air Malta is leasing its aircrafts to foreign carriers because it cannot sustain itself to grow. The EU does not give Air Malta the way that while it is restructuring itself it can sustain itself to grow. Air Malta is doomed to ruins. And its employees know this. If the government gives more money to extend the VRS and ERS 90% of the workforce will leave. And still there is no future for Air Malta because the payroll rationalization is going to amount only 20 million euros. From where Air Malta is going to bring the other 17 million euros? From the poor passengers that make use of the airline by charging them 10€ for using the internet to book, print out ticket, make web check-in and print out their boarding passes.Mr Pace is right and he is more updated than you. If Air Malta cannot keep its current schedule that means that Air Malta is no more competent with its competitors and do not have the expertise how to co-ordinate its planes with the schedule. This is a clear indication that Air Malta`s top management is incompetent and do not have an iota of knowledge of how to run an airline.

Why be destructive? Perhaps I want to go to Lithuania ... again and again. Annika, be constructive and say ADD Paris and Finland, instead. Then, if Ryanair follows your suggestion, I''ll be very happy to visit Paris and Finland too ... while keeping the door open to visit Lithuania as well.

i have no problem with them getting subsidies as long as the people get the airline and the services they want.deserve. More arrivals and departures means its better for Malta surely...

Just booked several flights with Air Malta, no problem with them whatsoever. There's no way I'll fly on an airline that regularly cancels/reschedules flights and adds a host of additional costs to 'headline' prices which are pure marketing and targeted at the very naive.

Kenneth Baldacchino

Jan 10th, 15:19

Mr. Cassar... if Air malta had to work exactly in the same way as RyanAir they would probably sack a couple of hundred more people than they are doing.... Would be better to check all facts first..

W Cassar

Jan 10th, 16:15

I wonder who is being really naive... the person who pays through his nose for a few perks or the person who saves a good amount of Euros just wanting to get from A to B.

On a personal note Ryanair has never failed me... yes there are hidden costs but I know about them and it still works out cheaper than Airmalta, by quite a bit!

Well if you check www.ryanair.com/en you're right , it's £9.99, but you might want to check www.ryanair.com/mt and you'll see it's €9.99. Wonder of wonders...............!
Check all sources before accusing someone of a mistake!

L-ammont tat-titjiriet u ċ-charges jibqa' dejjem l-istess, imma tibla' l-currency ta' minn fejn se jibda l-vjaġġ. Din m'hemmx mod kif tevitaha. Hekk pereżempju f'każ ta' return flight mill-istess ajruporti bejn Malta u l-Ingilterra, il-vjaġġ jiġik kollu f'ewro jekk se titlaq minn Malta. Imma jekk se titlaq minn Malta għall-UK imma ġej lura minn ajruport differenti, tibla' t-titjira lura bl-iSterlina.
