Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg revealed last night he got “a buzz” from meeting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the royal premiere of his new blockbuster War Horse, on the eve of the Duchess’s 30th birthday. His British cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Emily Watson, David Thewlis and newcomer Jeremy Irvine also walked the red carpet at the Odeon Leicester Square alongside 600 serving and ex-military personnel.

“It’s an honour to be here with the royals. This is my first royal premiere for the Duke and Duchess, having done them before for the Queen and the Queen Mother. This is a wonderful occasion tonight,” said the director.

“This is so exciting. I get a buzz. You never grow out of something like this,” he added.

The premiere was in aid of the Foundation of Prince William and Harry, which helps the welfare of those in the armed forces.

Five-foot crocodile intruder

Wildlife rangers have helped an Australian family deal with an uninvited guest – a five-foot crocodile that wandered into their living room.

The juvenile saltwater crocodile wandered into a home in Bees Creek, a suburb of the northern Australian city of Darwin and the family found it in a partially enclosed living area after their dog’s barking woke them.

Crocodile management official Dani Best said the reptile might have been forced out of a nearby creek by a larger crocodile. The intruder has been relocated to a crocodile farm.

Lucky escape for four in kayak

Four people had a lucky escape when their kayak sank.

A father and son among the group of four were taken to hospital after spending 40 minutes in the sea off Plymouth.

Coastguard rescuers said the group had ventured out inappropriately dressed and with no means of raising the alarm and were only saved so quickly because some member of the public walking on the cliff tops at Wembury Point heard their cries for help and raised the alarm.

Sir Paul’s album title is not cheeky

Sir Paul McCartney has put an end to speculation about his new album title confirming it will be called Kisses On The Bottom – but pointed out it is not as cheeky as it sounds.

The mainly cover versions album – out on February 6 – is named after a line from the Fats Waller song I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter, the opening track.

Sir Paul announced the title of the album – his first non-classical work for more than four and a half years – to fans through his website.
