I wrote a blog some time ago about how Franco Debono had a couple of good points buried within the oodles of quotes certain factions within the media had dragged out of him.
The PM today confirmed the validity of some of these points, elegantly and with not a little lightness of touch, by conducting a Cabinet reshuffle and taking other measures that whipped the carpet out from under the pattering feet of those who still, notwithstanding the season of good cheer, gasp for power.
The carpet was also whipped from under the feet of Franco Debono, for that matter, but it seems he hasn't noticed, because no sooner were the measures announced than he was being quoted as still un-satiated.
Apparently, now for some reason or other that is not entirely clear to me, the dear chap is not going to support the Government during the local council elections to be held in March, saying that "they're on their own". Funny that, I thought it was the Nationalist Party that contested elections, but who am I, a mere blogger and columnist, to gainsay Dr Debono, who tells us that his loyalties remain unchanged?
Permit me a friendly word of advice to Debono, who seems to have an impression that those of us who do this writing thing are out to get him (and are part of the cabal that is doing this, to boot) The advice is aimed at removing the blinkers from his eyes and opening them to the realities that he seems to have left disregarded.
The advice, for what it's worth is "it's time to put a sock in it, my friend."
This is because Debono's opinion about the worth of his opinions and thoughts, for all that it is bolstered by the media types who see him as a fantastic source for a story that fits their agenda, is not necessarily one with which right-thinking men and women concur and he's rapidly become a pain in our collective nether regions.
There's nothing as pathetic as the sight and sound of an orphan kid asking for more after having been given turkey, pudding, cake, port and cheese, just to keep in the spirit of the Season, and Debono is in danger of making himself a political orphan for whom very few, apart from the ones who want to use him, are going to have any sympathy.
All he needs to do to verify the integrity of my advice is check out the comments: there's a goodly clutch which approve what the PM did and by association, disapprove what he's doing.
