Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will be in Malta on a two day visit tomorrow and on Saturday.

He arrives tomorrow afternoon after wrapping up a visit to a number of African countries.

Mr Yang will be greeted by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg and will have a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi later tomorrow.

He will have further talks with Dr Borg on Saturday and will also go on a tour of Valletta.

This is the first visit to Malta by a Chinese Foreign Minister, although Malta has hosted visits by Chinese presidents.

President George Abela visited China two years ago but his visit was interrupted when he suffered an accident. Mr Yang visited Malta last year.

China had expressed its gratitude to Malta after it facilitated the evacuation of thousands of Chinese workers from Libya.

The two countries are currently marking 40 years of diplomatic relations.
