Two bouncers were remanded in custody today after being accused of beating up a man in a Paceville nightclub.

The case allegedly happened at the Havana Nightclub on Monday-Tuesday night.

Kevin Mallia, 37 of Sliema, who said he is an unemployed chef, and Aaron Vella, 25, of Mosta, who said he is unemployed, denied seriously injuring Nicholas Portelli and slightly injuring Yianis Micallef, assaulting them and breaching the peace.

Mr Mallia was also accused of working as a bouncer without a licence and Mr Vella, who holds such a licence, was accused of using excessive force and of relapsing.

In opposing a request for bail, Police Inspector Luke Bonello said that the victim had to be operated immediately for serious facial injuries and that the two bouncers had a history of similar cases.

The court denied the request for bail.
