A 35-year old Polish diver was rescued by the AFM on Tuesday as waves crashed against the shore at Dwejra in Gozo.

The rough sea was preventing the driver from reaching land. A former police officer who happened to be in the area raised the alarm after a person accompanying the distressed diver managed to make it ashore and ask for help.

The diver was pulled onto a patrol boat after being instructed to ditch his weight-belt, inflate his buoyancy device and swim offshore to avoid being swept ashore.
